Although most people feel that the kitchen and bathrooms are the most important spaces to renovate in a home, there are many other impactful improvements. Below are just a few of our favorites which we feel will make a dramatic transformation of your home.
Crown molding is a great way to make any room feel completed and even more grand. It draws the eyes to the highest point of the wall making the ceiling height feel much bigger. You can see in this room how the crown molding elongates the wall, making it appear taller. Without crown molding it likely wouldn’t feel or look as open and large.
Giving your front door a facelift is another inexpensive way to change the appearance of your home and give it a new look. A new entry door can range from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars. That said, fresh paint and a new lock set can take your existing door from weathered and drab to fresh and new.

Exchanging dated light fixtures with more contemporary pieces really sets the tone of a rooms design. Light fixtures are a great way to express your own sense of style and it also doubles as a piece of art. Some light fixtures are pricey but with the right eye finding one for less than what designer lighting stores charge is plausible. Some great places to consider searching are home consignment stores, home outlet stores, and flea markets.In the picture below you can see how the light fixture puts a perfect spin on traditional with a touch of modern. It also brings your eyes directly to the ceiling, make the room feel much larger.
At first the thought of replacing the kitchen faucet may seem like such a small change that it wont make much of a difference in the look of the home, but don’t jump to conclusions too quickly! Exchanging the outdated brass plated faucet with a chrome-plated or silver faucet really transforms the room. This quick and easy adjustment takes your home from outdated to upgraded for much less than it would cost to redo the entire room. This rule can and should also be applied to bathroom sink faucets. Notice how lush the beautiful kitchen faucet below really pulls the entire kitchen together, giving it a more current look.
Last, but definitely not the least, easy switch that will modernize a home and update its look is by changing out the hardware or cabinets. Replacing the boring, plastic white knobs with brass or chrome hardware dramatically updates the kitchen and gives it a new look. Don’t just apply this modification to the kitchen cabinets and drawers…exchange the hardware in bathrooms and closets throughout your home.
