Client Spotlight- Complexion

We recently sat down with some clients and friends, Natalie Copeland, FNP-C, and Beth Higney, NP-C. They are both board-certified nurse practitioners and co-owners of Complexion. This luxurious boutique medical spa is located in the heart of downtown Nashville, Tennessee, where clients can undergo the latest in non- and minimally invasive aesthetic solutions to enhance their natural beauty.

You went out and started your own practice. We are so proud of you. Tell us about Complexion!

Complexion is the perfect balance of a medical dermatology practice and a medspa. My partner, Natalie, and I are nurse practitioners with backgrounds in both cosmetics and dermatology. We take a comprehensive approach to skin – addressing everything from anti-aging treatments, like lasers and botox, to hormonal acne and rosacea. We can even provide our clients with prescriptions when needed.

Have you always dreamed of owning your own company?

Honestly, I feel like I should say yes. Truth is no. When I realized I had hit all my career goals in my twenties, I realized I had not dreamed big enough. I have always loved my job, but something was missing. I spent eight years working in a dermatology private practice and had patients and friends coming to see me for the same issues. My patients wanted both medical dermatology and aesthetics. They were looking for a place that offered both. Over the course of the next 4 years I came up with the dream and then the reality of Complexion. All I needed was a partner who could help make it come into fruition!

What are some common misconceptions about Cosmetic Dermatology?

When people hear “cosmetic dermatology” or think about getting treatments with Botox or dermal fillers, I think people worry they are going to look overdone or no longer look like themselves. Natalie and I both believe in enhancing natural features and providing our patients with the right education so they know how they can best care for their skin and age gracefully.

I have been in your office. It is absolutely stunning. What was your inspiration behind the space?

Well, thank you!
I tagged along on a friend’s work trip to LA and ended up shopping on Abbot Kinney. It’s a street with all kinds of cool stores, boutiques, and amazing restaurants. I took pictures of bathrooms, wallpaper, mirrors, doors, just random details and then added them to a Pinterest board with my partner Natalie. We both built on it from there! Natural lighting is so important for what we do, so we added windows and designed the space in a way that allowed as much light as possible to shine through.

What is the Complexion difference? It is obvious to me but tell everyone why you guys are the best?

Well, there a few things that make Complexion stand out. We are both nurse practitioners with a strong background in dermatology and plastics/aesthetics. Natalie has worked as a medical liaison for Galderma, a well known cosmetic dermatology company and is currently an injector trainer for Prollenium. Basically, I get to combine 8 years of medical and cosmetic dermatology experience and work next to a company trainer.

Professionally, I’ve hit the jackpot! As a client of mine, I can assure you, you are in good hands!

I look at every patient as one of my friends. A huge priority for me is for Complexion to be a place where people can come and feel empowered and confident.
